Alchemy Dojang took home an impressive 22 medals at the SA Korean Martial Arts Gauteng Championships
This was especially impressive as they were won by only seven people from the martial arts group based in Cresta.
The competition saw all forms of Korean martial arts practised across the province, contested at top level.
Instructor Gregory Hart led the local group well as they shone in tang soo do, a martial art famous for its combination of kicks and hand techniques, as well as its celebrity practitioner Chuck Norris.
They competed in various divisions ranging from nine-year-old beginners to advanced adult black belts. They showed off their skills in different categories, namely – traditional forms, weapons forms, point sparring and combat weapons sparring.
After excelling in each of these categories, Alchemy Dojang returned with nine gold medals, 12 silver medals and one bronze medal.
“While these provincial championships are still recovering from the setbacks of Covid-19, we hope to see them grow in size over the next few months so that our athletes can continue to compete with such excellence – especially in the upcoming Arnold Classic in May,” said Hart, who is 7th dan in tang soo do and 2nd dan in haedong kumdo.
